“Thank you, thank you very much. Once again ¡good evening! and welcome to our little concert tonight, the first of seven, here at the beautiful Universal Amphitheatre – ¡I can’t believe it! – Well, I have been looking forward to this for a long, long, long time – I tell you.. we ah... we came into Los Angeles on Saturday and drove down to the beach. When I saw the ocean for the fisrt time a couple of things happened, and I felt very good about being with the ocean again – and I remember back about ten years ago, when I left College and came out here and I was working for a civil engineer down in ah... in Long Beach, and every night, because his family went top bed kind of early, I went down to the beach and sat on the life guard stands, and practiced songs... And worked on songs that I was learning... and worked on songs that I was writing... And literally ached for people to sing to. And to be able to come back now and to have some 35.000 people to sing to this week, just ¡thrills me to death! – And I’ve been looking forward to this...
We got a lot of songs we want to do for you tonight, some that I hope will be familiar, some are going to be brand new to you. In any case we invite you to relax, let yourself go wherever the music takes you – and any time you feel like sing along, as always, you’re welcome to that... Please, limit yourselves to the choruses of the songs... And let me do the verses... Yes it is! And I’m pleased to tell you that we’re recording this show tonight for RCA – so ¡when you sing ,sing good! and I’ll try to do the same. ¡Have fun everybody, we’re going to get high tonight!
